Unique Identification Number (UIN) for Social Security/Government Schemes
Re: Circular No:47/IRDA/ACTL/FUP/Ver 4.0/Jan 2007 dt 31st Jan, 2007

The Authority allots Unique Identification Numbers to the approved products as per the procedure outlined in the above referred circular.  However, it is observed that there is no specific code to identify “Social Security Schemes / Government Schemes” explicitly.
Further, it is necessary to include a specific code for social security schemes in the ongoing Business Analytics Project.
In view of above, it has been decided to
(i)                 introduce a new character “G” (as Social Security Schemes or government schemes) in column C2 below to identify explicitly the Social Security Schemes along with the existing Nature of products mentioned in C2.
(ii)               remove ‘C’ in column C2 below as combined riders are not allowed.

The Para 3 of the above referred circular therefore stands modified as:
“ The unique number will have ten characters/digits as follows:
Insurer’s Registration Number allotted by IRDA
Nature of Product
L/N/G/A/B
Serial number of Product allotted by IRDA
Version
Number
C1
C2
C3
C4
C5

10

All the other provisions of the above referred circular remain unchanged.
Further, all the insurers are hereby requested to obtain the IRDA Product Number for all existing products which are being offered as social security/government schemes. In this regard, insurers are requested to furnish the list of such existing products with UINs for allotment of revised UINs within 30 days from the date of receipt of this circular.

For all the new products, the Authority shall allot this number at the time of clearance of the product.
